At the heart of both TeamEverest and especially PolarLeader are really challenging conflicts and dilemmas. The programs get to be most engaging when participants are immersed in a pressure cooker / boiler-room situation. That's when the energy goes through the roof and the masks come down. It's real, honest, vulnerable and connects people together powerfully.  Often someone who was pretty invisible up to that point becomes recognized by the group as a kind of psychological leader.

 

What we've found over the years is that these polarities cannot be solved they can only be managed. Those that want to solve them are often a divisive force in the room and we want them to see that. Barry Johnson uses a very useful analogy, he likens it to breathing. One pole is the inbreath and the other the out breath. You can choose between them - so how do we work with them which necessitate that people with seeming oppositional views must work together.
